Reports have been received that Panamanian flag vessel ZHONG GU TAI SHAN (16,236gt, built 1990) experienced an engine room fire whilst approaching Shanghai on 19 June 2023.
SAR vessels were sent by the Chinese authorities and the containership was towed to an anchorage away from passing traffic.
The majority of the crew were taken off the vessel, with eight remaining on board to support the fire fighting operation.
As of today, ZGONG GU TAI SHAN remains stationary with salvage tug DONG HAI JIU 101 standing by.
