Reports have been received that Singapore flag vessel WAN HAI 503 (42,532gt, built 2005) suffered a fire on board today whilst off the south west coast of India, in position lat 11 32 24N, long 074 37 33

Photographs suggest that the fire originated in a cargo amidships. If correct, this would be the latest in a long list of containership cargo fires over recent months and years.

WAN HAI 503 trades between Sri Lanka and ports in the Far East. The vessel is likely to be carrying cargoes to and from other areas as well.

Prior to this incident WAN HAI 503 had called at Colombo on 07 June, Port Klang on 02 June, Singapore on 01 June, Shekou on 26 May, Hong Kong on 25 May and Kaohsiung on 24 May.
