Reports have been received that Liberian flag vessel VICTORIA L (15,633gt, built 2009) suffered an explosion on board earlier today.

The incident occurred when the vessel, a containership, was sailing off Hoek van Holland on a voyage from Hamburg to Rotterdam.

There have been no reports of crew injuries. The explosion, which was in the vessel’s engine room, lead to a fire breaking out, and this could not be extinguished by the crew.

The local emergency responders are now involved, and the vessel is understood to be an anchor whilst the situation is further assessed.
