Reports have been received that Singapore flag vessel ONE ORPHEUS (99,543gt, built 2008) suffered a steering failure earlier today whilst sailing north bound in the Suez Canal.
The containership allided with a bridge near the entrance of the new canal, at kilometre 74. Vessels astern of ONE ORPHEUS in the convoy were rerouted through the original canal and not delayed.
ONE ORPHEUS is currently positioned with its length across the width of the canal, blocking the entrance to the new route.
The location of the accident near to the entrance to the new canal has fortunately meant that other vessels can be quickly re-routed, unlike the case following the EVER GIVEN grounding incident in March 2021.
