Reports have been received that Liberian flag vessel MSC RHIANNON (23,890gt, built 2001) ran aground off Bakirkoy anchorage, Istanbul on 14 March.

The vessel, a containership, had sailed from Constanta, Romania the previous day.

MSC RHIANNON could not refloat under its own power. Diving inspections were carried out and a Turkish Open Form salvage contract signed with the Shipowners.

The vessel has been towed to a safe anchorage. The extent of any damage suffered by the vessel is to be assessed.
