UK to Turkey

Reports have been received that Panamanian flag vessel GUANA (12,388gt, built 1999) suffered a fire on board yesterday whilst sailing off the coast of Finistere, France.

Figh-fighting tug ABEILLE BOURBON was sent to the scene, as was a rescue helicopter and patrol boat.

The fire was brought under control but the engine is no longer operative, and the decision was taken to evacuate the crew because of bad weather conditions.

GUANA is on a voyage from Immingham in the UK to Iskenderun in Turkey, carrying a cargo of steel products.

There is no indication at this point that the cargo has been damaged. But it is possible that claims for general average and salvage will arise.
