Following the missile strike earlier this month, the owners of the vessel GROTON (27,322gt, built 2002) have now declared general average.

GROTON, a container vessel, was struck by a Houthi missile on 03 August, whilst the vessel was approximately 170 miles west of Aden.

It was initially reported that no damage had been suffered. However, the ship owners have now stated that all cargo is to be discharged at Djibouti (where the vessel is presently), to allow fire damage to the vessel to be repaired.

Before this incident the vessel had called at Jebel Ali, Jubail, Umm Qasr, Mina Khalifa, Mundra and Nhava Sheva.
