Reports have been received that Liberia flag vessel GLORIA MARIS (82,891gt, built 2021) came into collision with South Korea flag vessel HMM ST PETERSBURG (215,000gt, built 2020) earlier today off the coast of Spain.
Presently there are no reports of pollution of injuries, but two Spanish vessels, LUZ DE MAR and SALVAMAR DENEBOLA have been sent to assist.
The accident happened early this morning around position lat 36 01 48N, long 005 22 39W, which is near the bay of Algeciras, Spain.
GLORIA MARIS is a crude carrier which had most recently called at Escombreras in Spain and prior to that Freeport in Bahamas, from where the vessel had sailed on 11 November.
HMM ST PETERSBURG is an ultra large container vessel and had loaded cargoes in ports in China and South Korea before this incident. The vessel’s last port of call was Yantian from where it sailed on 22 October.
