Reports have been received that Marshall Islands flag vessel FEDERAL TWEED (31,590gt, built 2013) suffered a fire on board earlier today whilst berthed in Amsterdam.

The fire is understood to have started in the vessel’s cargo of scrap, which is now being discharged ashore where extinguishing efforts are continuing.

Because of the thick smoke generated by the fire, local residents were advised to keep doors and windows closed.

Before arriving in Amsterdam, FEDERAL TWEED had sailed from Gdynia, Poland on 14 April.
