Reports have been received that South Korean flag vessel DONGJIN FORTUNE (7,683gt, built 2002) suffered an engine room fire yesterday off Tsuwajijima Island, Japan.
The fire was extinguished by the crew, and no injuries were reported. However, the vessel was left unnavigable and has been towed to Hiroshima.
Prior to this incident, DONGJIN FORTUNE, a containership, had sailed from Busan on 20 January.
It is possible that general average and salvage claims will be made against cargo insurers as a result of this incident.
