Reports have been received that Maltese flag vessel DELPHINE (74,273gt, built 2018) suffered a fire on board yesterday whilst berthed in Zeebrugge, Belgium.

The fire started on cargo deck no 3. There are understood to be around 100 vehicles in this area, most of which are electric vehicles (EVs).

No injuries were reported and the fire has been extinguished, although the emergency responders are continuing to monitor the situation.

DELPHINE operates between Killingholme in the UK and Zeebrugge. Around 60-70 vehicles on the affected deck are expected to have been destroyed in the fire.

Other vehicles are expected to be affected by the dense smoke that was caused, and firefighting water.

The cause of the fire is unknown although there is speculation that this may have originated in an EV battery.
