Cyclone MICHAUNG made landfall in Chennai, India earlier today, causing substantial damage to infrastructure in the city and surrounding areas.
Flooding has been reported in many regions, including the city’s airport.
The sea ports are closed and in any event cargo transit to and from the coast is being disrupted because of widespread disruption to the road and rail networks, as well as power cuts.
We would expect there to be substantial damage to cargoes in the area. We are therefore letting our various insurer clients know that we and our surveyor network are ready to assist as required.
