Reports have been received that MV CMA CGM J. Madison experienced a fire on board while navigating the Straits of Malacca at approximately lat 04°18′50″N, long 099°23′03″E on 18 August 2025. The vessel was en route from Singapore to Khalifa Port, UAE.

It is understood that emergency protocols were promptly activated and the fire was extinguished with the assistance of professional salvors. The vessel subsequently proceeded to Port Klang anchorage, Malaysia, where it remains under inspection. Cargo stowed in the vicinity of the fire is likely to have sustained fire, heat, smoke and/or wet damage. In addition, time and temperature-sensitive cargo may have been impacted due to delays in the voyage.

No injuries have been reported among the crew. CMA CGM has confirmed the vessel remains stable, with propulsion and navigation unaffected. Inspections are ongoing to determine the extent of cargo damage. Delivery delays are expected.

The vessel’s last port of call before the incident was Singapore, and it was destined for Khalifa Port, UAE.
