Reports have been received that Barbados flag vessel AK DISCOVERY (5,381gt, built 2001) suffered a fire on board yesterday off Akbas Point, Turkiye.
Two crew members were injured as a result of the incident.
The fire was later extinguished but the vessel had to be taken in tow to a safe anchorage. The ship owners will be asked to pay salvage expenses, we understand.
AK DISCOVERY is a general cargo vessel which is on a voyage from Abu Kir, Egypt to Varna, Bulgaria.
