Reports have been received that Marshall Islands flag vessel MARLIN LUANDA (63,338gt, built 2018) was strike by a missile on Friday evening, launched by Houthis from Yemen.
The attack was when the tanker was in position about 60 miles southeast of Aden. No injuries have been reported. But the vessel reported in a fire in a starboard cargo tank.
The Indian Navy deployed its guided-missile destroyer INS VISAKHAPATNAM to the scene and the fire was later brought under control by military personnel.
MARLIN LUANDA is on a voyage from Egypt to Singapore. This attack is the most recent of several perp6trated by Houthis over recent weeks.
As well as, in some cases, damage to cargoes, these attacks lead to ship owners incurring expenses in the nature of general average, which may also lead to claims on cargo insurers.
