Reports have been received that Marshall Islands flag vessel ST NIKOLAS (81,282gt, built 2011) was hijacked off Sohan, Oman earlier today.
The vessel was boarded by a group of six people dressed in miliary uniforms.
Contact with the vessel has been lost but it is thought the tanker, carrying crude from Iraq, is now headed for Bandar-e-Jask, in Iran.
This latest incident follows several attacks on shipping during heightened tensions in the area, although previous incidents have tended to be around the Red Sea rather than in the Gulf.
