Report have been received that a fire broke out in one of the holds of St Kitts and Nevis flag vessel CERUS (28676gt, built 2003) on 02 July 2022.
The containership is on a voyage from Koper, Slovenia to Misrata, Libya with 23 people on board, and was sailing off the coast of Bari, Italy at the time of the incident.
Emergency services were alerted, and the vessel has been escorted into Brindisi, as s port of refuge. It is understood that the fire has now been extinguished.
Prior to calling in Koper, CERUS had called at Nansha, Beilun, Ningbo and Qianwan.
As well as cargo damage, it is possible that salvage and general average claims will be made as a result of this incident.
