Reports have been received that Singaporean flag vessel APL CAIRO (25,305gt, built 2001) suffered a fire on board yesterday whilst sailing off Vietnam.
Smoke was seen rising from a cargo hold and a rescue/fire-fighting operation was undertaken. The vessel has returned to the port of Ho Chi Minh City where the extent of damage will be assessed.
Prior to this incident APL CAIRO had sailed from Vung Tao on 07 March 2022. The vessel was scheduled to call at Xiamen, Xingang and Dalian.
As well as damage to the cargo, it is possible that claims for salvage and general average will arise as a result of this incident.
