Reports have been received that Marshall Islands flag vessel CHEM SINYOO (15,148gt, built 2002) issued a distress signal off the Vietnamese coast yesterday.
The vessel suffered an accident in the engine room.
One crew member has reportedly died, four were injured and in need of immediate medical assistance.
The Vietnamese Coastguard, Navy and Maritime Safety sent ships to assist. All other ships in the area were also asked to assist if possible.
The vessel, a tanker, was en route from Singapore to Majishan, China.
