Date: 18th December 2015    Type: Grounding – General Average  Voyage: Brazil to Malaysia and Vietnam

Reports have been received that Vietnamese flag vessel VOSCO SKY (29,637gt, built 2001) ran aground on 18th December 2015 shortly after leaving her loading port of San Francisco Do Sul, Brazil.

Four tugs were engaged to re-float the vessel. Following this VOSCO SKY resumed her voyage towards discharge ports Port Klang and Phu My. She is current in South Africa.

The vessel’s owners have declared General Average as a result of this incident. Before the cargoes can be delivered, cargo insurers will be expected to provide average guarantees.

We have been in contact with the Average Adjusters on behalf of the insurers of part of the cargo on board. We understand that the Adjusters may only accept security from cargo insurers with an AA rating. But this remains to be confirmed.
