Reports have been received that Hong Kong flag vessel TASMAN SEA (17433gt built 2001) has run aground just outside the channel inside Tripoli Harbour.
The port authority appointed divers to carry out an underwater inspection. Harbour and salvage tugs have attempted to refloat the vessel but without success so far. Smit Salvage has now been appointed.
We understand that the vessel is carrying a cargo of wheat from Canada. She sailed from Montreal on 31st December 2012
It is likely that a salvage claim will be made against the owners/insurers of the cargo on board this vessel. It is also possible that general average will be declared.
