Reports have been received that Liberian flag vessel MONICA P. (27011gt built 1998) ran aground recently at the mouth of the Amazon.
A tug REBRAS IGUACU was despatched from Buenos Aires to assist. The bulk carrier, with 43,500mt iron ore on board, was eventually refloated and continued on her voyage to Europe.
It is possible that a salvage claim will be made against the owners/insurers of the cargo on board this vessel. It is also possible that general average will be declared.
