Reports have been received that Cambodian flag vessel ZIAD STAR (4727gt built 1971) has been towed to a port of refuge in Turkey today.
The elderly cargo ship, operated out of Egypt, is understood to have experienced engine problems after sailing from Gemlik. Tug Kurtama 2 was sent to assist.
It is possible that a salvage claim will be made against the owners/insurers of the cargo on board this vessel. It is also possible that general average will be declared.
