Reports have been received that USA flag vessel MAERSK TEXAS (35815gt built 1979) has suffered steering gear problems in the North Atlantic.
The vessel is on a voyage from Dakar, from where she sailed 8th May, destined for Germany. It is understood that a salvage tug is proceeded to the area to try to assist.
It is possible that salvage claims will be brought against cargo owners/underwriters as a result of this incident. It is also possible that general average will be declared.
