Date: 4th May 2010     Type: Collision and Sinking     Voyage: Lianyungang to Pohang – Onsan to Zuhai.

Reports have been received that Cambodian flag vessel PING YANG NO 1 (1700gt built 1986) has sunk after colliding with Korean flag vessel KENOS ATHENA (4699gt built 1985) off Busan on 4th May 2010. The Master of PING YANG NO 1 is reportedly lost although there appear to be no other casualties.

PING YANG NO 1 has sank in approximately 90 metres of water. Pollution control measures are being put in place. KENOS ATHENA has suffered serious damage and is returning to port.

PING YANG NO 1 had on board a cargo of ferro chrome for discharge in Pohang. KENOS ATHENA is carrying a cargo of sulphuric acid from Onsan to Zuhai.
