Reports have been received that Isle of Man flag vessel VERITY (2,601gt, built 2001) was in collision with Bahamas flag vessel POLESIE (24,055gt, built 2009) earlier today in the North Sea.

One of the vessels, VERITY, apparently sank. One person was rescued from the water and was being given medical treatment, whilst rescuers were searching for the remainder of the crew.

POLESIE reportedly remains afloat with 22 people on board. The P&O cruise ship IONA has joined several vessels in the search, including HERMANN MARWEDE and BERNHARD GRUBEN

Tug NORDIC, the pilot tender WANGEROOGE, water police boat SYLT, various other craft and an SAR helicopter are also assisting.

At the time of the accident, VERITY was on a voyage from Bremen to Immingham. POLESIE is on a voyage from Hamburg to La Corunna.
