Reports have been received that Golden Star 1, carrying 107 containers, sank in the Strait of Singapore on 5th June.
The ship is a feeder vessel and sank in the middle of the Strait of Singapore, shortly after leaving the PSA Tanjong Pagar Terminal. It is reported that she began taking on water, and then quickly went down at a position about 3 nm north of Batam. All 9 crew were rescued by the Indonesian coast guard.
As a feeder vessel, she would have been carrying containers to/from ports around the world. Being 31 years old, causation will focus on her age and that corrosion issues were noted during her last Port State Control inspection.
