Southbound voyage from Europe to the Levant
Reports have been received that the CMA CGM TIGA encountered strong weather conditions while proceeding on her southbound voyage from Europe to the Levant and, as a result, suffered the loss at sea of 58 containers on 20 January 2026.
It is understood that, in addition to the containers lost overboard, a number of other containers stowed on deck were reported damaged. No injuries to crew have been reported, and no significant structural damage to the vessel has been advised. The vessel is reported to remain fully seaworthy. Initial information indicates that none of the containers lost overboard contained dangerous goods.
The carrier has advised that the relevant authorities were notified immediately, and that the vessel will proceed to Malta in order to carry out a detailed assessment of the incident and determine appropriate measures to ensure the safe continuation of the voyage. Impacted customers are to be contacted directly by the carrier.
The vessel’s last port of call prior to the incident was in Europe, and she was bound on a southbound routing toward the Levant at the time of the casualty.
