Reports have been received that Liberian flag vessel MONRING MIDAS (46,800gt, built 2006) suffered a fire on board yesterday whilst sailing approximately 300 miles south west of Adak, Alaska.

The US Coast Guard (USCG) responded to the incident this morning stating that no injuries had been reported.

The USCG also reported that aircrews and a cutter were en route to assist with the situation, and that three vessels were already on scene.

MORNING MIDAS is loaded with approximately 3,000 vehicles, around a quarter of which are electric. Smoke was initially seen emanating from a deck carrying electric vehicles.

Prior to this incident the vessel had sailed from Yantai, China on 26 May, having previously called at Nanhui and Guangzhou. The vessel is destined for Lazaro Gardenas, Mexico.
