Reports have been received that Liberian flag vessel MSC ANTONIA (76,486gt, built 2009) ran aground off Jeddah on 10 May 2025, near position lat 21 43 23N, long 038 48 13E.
The vessel, a containership, is reportedly still aground. There are suggestions that the vessel may have been affected by GPS jamming, leading to the accident.
MSC ANTONIA had called at Marsaxlokk on 03 May 2025, having previously called at ports in Italy, Spain and the Americas.
It is possible that general average and/or salvage claims may arise from this incident. The extent of cargo damage if any is not yet clear.
