NARUTO collision with TOWA MARU

Reports have been received that Panama flag vessel NARUTO (9,467gt, built 2013) was in collision with Japanese flag vessel TOWA MARU (498gt, built 2017) off the Shonai Peninsula, Japan, yesterday.
NARUTO is understood to have suffered water ingress into a cargo hold as a result of the accident. The general cargo vessel had sailed from Makassar, Indonesia on 14 February 2025 before arriving in Japan.
TOWA MARU is a Japanese tanker which trades between Japanese ports. No injuries or pollution were reported.
