Reports have been received that Korean flag vessel SM PORTLAND (40,839gt, built 2009) suffered cargo loss and damage whilst sailing in heavy seas on 04 March 2025.

The vessel, a containership, was in the Bering Sea at the time of the incident, en route to Vancouver. 114 containers have been either lost or damaged.

Prior to the incident SM PORLAND had sailed from Busan on 27 February, having previously called at Shanghai, Beilun and Yantian in China.

The vessel is due in Vancouver early next week where inspections will be conducted before the vessel is allowed to unload the remaining cargo.
