Reports have been received that Liberian flag vessel MANASOTA (88,246gt built 2007) while en route from Cape Town to Singapore, experienced a fire in engine room, in the Indian Ocean, in position lat 17 12 45S, long 061 29 52E, near Mauritius, on 15 January 2025.
The fire was extinguished and the engine room flooded with carbon dioxide. The second engineer was found unconscious and had sustained burns and other injuries.
Arrangements have been made for a tug to assist from Colombo. As of this morning, AIS data indicates that the vessel remains not under command and adrift in a south westerly direction.
