Reports have been received that Maltese flag vessel CMA CGM BENJAMIN FRANKLIN (179,922gt built 2015) lost 44 containers overboard off the coast of South Africa on 09 July 2024.
Several other containers, around 30, have been damaged. The incident reportedly occurred during severe weather.
The vessel is now heading towards Cape Town when the situation is to be thoroughly assessed.
Prior to the incident the vessel had called at various ports in China and Malaysia and is believed to be destined for ports in Northern Europe.
