Reports have been received that Gabon flag vessel PABLO (52,197gt, built 1997) suffered a fire and explosion on board yesterday off Malaysia.
The vessel, a crude oil tanker, is reportedly still on fire. The majority of the crew was rescued by a passing vessel and the Malaysian authorities, but other crewmembers are reported as missing.
PABLO is on a voyage from China to UAE. It is not yet clear whether there is cargo on the vessel, or the vessel is in ballast. Reports are that the tanker appears to be high in the water.
