Reports have been received that Vietnamese flag vessel HOA LU 2 (3,227gt, built 2014) suffered an engine break down in the Gulf of Tonkin on 04 December 2022.

The general cargo vessel had sailed from Cam Pha in a southerly direction when the incident occurred. Power was lost and HOA LU 2 began to take on water, leading the Master to take the decision to issue a distress signal.

SAR vessel CN 09/12 reached the scene earlier today. Because of rough seas, which prevented the crew being taken off directly by the SAR vessel, the crew abandoned ship into life rafts.

The crew members were taken to the fishing port of Cua Hoi, although three remained on board the casualty to assist with salvage efforts.
