Initial Casualty Report

Reports have been received that Singapore flag vessel INTERASIA CATALYST (39,906gt, built 2009), suffered a fire on board shortly after sailing from Port Klang on 4 April 2021.

The vessel returned to the port on 7 April 2021 where fire fighting operations continued. The fire reportedly originated in the containers stowed on deck.

INTERASIA CATALYST was ordered to an outer anchorage at Pintu Gedong by the Malaysian authorities. Fire fighting tugs and other craft are in attendance. No injuries have been reported.

This incident may give rise to claims for salvage and general average against the insurers of the cargo on board. Some cargo will of course also be damaged.

The vessel was on a voyage to Kochi in India. Prior to Port Klang, INTERASIA CATALYST had sailed from the following ports on the following dates.

Shekou: 29 March
Hong Kong: 28 March
