Reports have been received that Panama flag vessel IBRAHIM KONAN (5,581gt, built 2006) grounded as a result of a technical failure yesterday, in the Canakkale Strait.
The cargo vessel is carrying a cargo of 6,600 tonnes of ammonium sulphate.
Rescue boats, tugs and technical teams attended the scene. An underwater inspection is due to take place to assess any damage and surveyors will carry out an investigation into the cause of the incident.
The Owners of the vessel have entered into a Turkish Open Form salvage contract. Cargo insurers will be expected to meet part of the salvage payments.
The location of the incident is currently restricted for all types of marine traffic.
