Reports have been received that Marshall Islands flag vessel FARUK KAAN (7738gt built 2005) was taken in tow by salvage tug TSAVLIRIS HELLAS two weeks ago.
The general cargo vessel is carrying a cargo of 7300mt steel products. She began to experience problems off Cape Verde Islands and has been towed into Mindelo.
The vessel generally trades between Spain and Portugal and ports along the coast of West Africa. Before the incident she had called at Las Palmas, Bilbao and Leixoes.
It is possible that a salvage claim will be made against the owners/insurers of the cargo on board this vessel. It is also possible that general average will be declared.
