Date: 28.06.09     Type: Grounding     Voyage: South America/Europe

Reports have been received that German flag vessel MSC ANTARES (66289gt built 2000) ran aground off Rio de Janeiro on 28th June 2009.

The vessel has now been refloated by Salvors appointed to act on Lloyd’s Open Form terms. The vessel is on her way to Europe where she will arrive shortly.

MSC ANTARES currently operates between South America and the Mediterranean. She will, however, also be carrying transhipment cargoes from and to various ports in other parts of the world.

Before the cargo can be delivered, Salvors require salvage security to be provided on terms acceptable to the Council of Lloyd’s. Dolphin Maritime’s guarantees are acceptable to the Council. We can provide salvage security on your behalf (subject to internal procedures) for a bail fee from 0.8% of the guarantee amount.

In addition to the salvage claim, general average has also been declared. The usual general average bonds and guarantees will have to be provided by cargo underwriters and receivers before the cargo can be delivered. We can provide average guarantees on behalf of underwriters.

If you have insured cargo on board this vessel and require our assistance to deal with any security demands and claims for salvage and/or general average, please contact us as soon as possible.

Depending upon the cause of the grounding (which is under investigation) we may also be able to assist you in pursuing recovery for any losses that you may suffer. In this regard, we have identified the vessels’ P&I Club.
