Date: 16 January 2023 Type: Grounding and LOF Voyage: Mediterranean to Northern Europe
Reports have been received that Maltese flag vessel CMA CGM BARRACUDA (54,152gt, built 2007) ran aground on the Wester Scheldt on 13 January 2022.
The containership was assisted by Multraship tugs under a Lloyd’s Open Form (LOF) salvage contract.
It is reported that the accident was as a result of a rudder problem. The salvage operation has been a success we understand, despite bad weather in the area.
CMA CGM BARRACUDA, carrying containerised general cargoes, is on a north bound voyage from ports in the Mediterranean.
It is possible that claims for salvage and/or general average will be brough against cargo insurers as a result of this incident.
