Reports have been received that Liberian flag vessel PACIFIC ZIRCON (28,426gt, built 2013) suffered an attack by a bomb carrying drone off the coast of Oman yesterday.
AIS data indicates that the incident probably occurred in position lat 22 06 46N, long 62 40 14E, 160 nautical miles east of Al Hadd.
That tanker is operated by Singapore-based Eastern Pacific Shipping, which is a reported to be a company ultimately owned by an Israeli billionaire.
The attack comes amid heightening tensions between Israel and Iran. Prior to the incident the tanker had sailed from Visakhapatnam on 25 October, calling in Kuwait two weeks later.
