Reports have been received that Cypriot flag vessel BJOERKOE (4,102gt, built 2009) was in collision with Cypriot flag vessel PAIVI (2,474gt, built 2008) in the Kiel Canal earlier today.
BJOERKOE was on a voyage from Papenburg, Germany to Sodertalje, Sweden whereas PAIVI was sailing from Kokkola, Finland to Antwerp, Belgium.
Both vessels were reportedly damaged in the incident. PAIVI suffered water ingress, and three crew members on board were injured. Tugs STEIN and HOLTENAU took PAIVI under tow. Fire and rescue services were also sent to the scene.
