Reports have been received that Marshall Islands flag vessel CHRISTOS THEO (32,983gt, built 2010) was involved in a collision towards the end of last month which resulted in damage to the vessel’s rudder.
The accident happened whilst CHRISTOS THEO was in the Great Bitter Lakes on a voyage from Kaohsiung to Slovenia and Italy.
The vessel’s owners have entered into an LOF salvage contract with professional salvors Five Oceans Salvage SA. We understand that CHRISTOS THEO will be towed to Slovenia.
Before the cargo can be delivered, the cargo insurers will be expected to provide salvage security. It is also likely that general average will be declared. The vessel is carrying a cargo of rolled steel sheets.
