Reports have been received that the fire on board Norwegian flagged vessel HOEGH XIAMEN (47,232gt, built 2010) is yet to be extinguished.

The vehicle carrier suffered an explosion on a cargo deck at the port of Jacksonville, Florida on 4th June 2020. Several firefighters were injured in the incident.

The fire has spread to several decks and cargo damage is expected to be extensive. Around 2,500 vehicles were on board the vessel.

HOEGH XIAMEN was we understand expected to call at ports in West Africa. Her trading pattern indicates that ports in Nigeria and Benin were the intended destination for the cargoes.
