Reports have been received that Bahamas flag bulk cement carrier FJORDVIK (3091gt, built 1975), grounded outside the port of Helguvík, on the South West corner of Iceland, at around 0050 local time today.
The vessel is said to be carrying around 1600 metric tonnes of cement. According to reports, all the crew members were lifted off the vessel by Icelandic coast guard helicopters. Water ingress into the vessel and a leakage of fuel have been reported.
Authorities in Iceland are currently responding to the emergency and establishing the extent of damage to the vessel and any potential impact on the marine environment.
The vessel is on a voyage from Denmark to Iceland. She sailed from Aalborg on 28th October 2018.
