Reports have been received that Panamanian flag vessel NEW MYKONOS (81,152gt, built 1997) ran aground on 28th February 2016 off Talagrano, Madagascar.
The bulk carrier is reportedly carrying a cargo of coal from Richards Bay to Visakhapatnam. She is still aground.
The owners of the NEW MYKONOS have entered into an LOF salvage contract with Smit Salvage.
Salvage security acceptable to the Council of Lloyd’s will be required before the cargo can be delivered. It is also likely that general average will be declared.
