Reports have been received that Turkish flag vessel GOKBEL (2126gt, built 2011) collided with Belize flag vessel LADY AZIZA (3828gt, built1991) off the port of Ravenna yesterday.
The incident resulted in GOKBEL sinking. Five out of the eleven crewmembers have been rescued but two crew members reportedly lost their lives. Latest reports indicate that the search continues for the four missing crew members.
LADY AZIZA, in ballast condition, escaped with only minor damage. GOKBEL was carrying approximately 1,500mt steel products. She had sailed from Iskenderun on 14th December for ports in Italy.
