Reports have been received that Panama flag vessel MARILLION (24609gt built 1986) ran aground in the Lobito Channel last Sunday. She had sailed from Rizhao on 18th October.
The vessel is carrying a cargo of cement. It is understood that there may have been seawater ingress into the cargo holds. Surveyors are being appointed.
It is possible that a salvage claim will be made against the owners/insurers of the cargo on board this vessel. It is also possible that general average will be declared.
