Reports have been received that Liberian flag vessel CIELO DI SALERNO (23680gt built 2002) has been towed into Brest today by tug TYPHOON.
The tanker, whose last port of call was Palm Beach on 16th September, began to experience engine problems in the Bay of Biscay over the weekend.
We understand that the vessel is carrying a cargo of molasses. The vessel’s original desination was to be Zeebrugge.
It is possible that a salvage claim will be made against the owners/insurers of the cargo on board this vessel. It is also possible that general average will be declared.
